Cartographica HelveticaSummaryMichael Ritter: Maps and atlases by art publisher Johann Andreas Pfeffel (1674–1748) from AugsburgCartographica Helvetica 48 (2013) 15–24 Summary: Johann Andreas Pfeffel is one of the most renowned German art publishers from the 18th century. Particularly his magnificent publications, including numerous copper engravings, endowed him with a high standing that he enjoyed already during his lifetime. Less well known was that already during his early years in Vienna and later on when he moved to Augsburg, Pfeffel was a proficient engraver and publisher of maps and atlases, some of which are indeed of supra-regional cartographic-historical significance. For the first time, a summary of these works will be presented here. © 1990–2024 Cartographica Helvetica (Imprint) |
